FAQ

Koa AI Plush Toy FAQ

Clear answers for parents exploring Koa, AI plush companions, privacy, and early family testing.

What is Koa?

Koa is a koala-inspired AI plush companion by Wattle & Kind, designed for Australian family life.

It is being shaped around screen-free stories, calm conversation, parent-aware interaction, and privacy-conscious design.

Who makes Koa?

Koa is being developed by Wattle & Kind, an Australian family-tech brand building gentle AI plush companions for family life.

Koa is our first companion, with future companions planned for more ages, personalities, and everyday family needs.

Is Koa always listening?

No. Koa is being planned around press-to-talk style interaction, not a device that listens all the time.

The goal is to make interaction clear and intentional for families.

Who is Koa for?

Koa is being designed for calm family moments such as bedtime wind-downs, quiet play, car rides, waiting moments, and everyday transitions.

Final age guidance will be confirmed before any pilot batch or finished-product claims.

Is Koa ready to buy now?

Not yet.

Koa is in early development. The waitlist is for pilot updates, family feedback invitations, and product development notes, not orders or deposits.

How do parents stay in control?

Koa is being built around parent-aware settings, gentle boundaries, and clear privacy language.

We are still validating the final setup, controls, and data model with families. Current parent-control directions include editable conversation boundaries, sensitive-topic settings, quiet-time routines, and clear activation controls.

Can Koa recognise children's emotions?

Koa's voice interaction module is being explored to recognise simple emotional cues in a child's words or tone and respond with gentle, age-aware conversation.

This is not a medical, therapy, or diagnostic feature. Koa should not be used to assess, treat, or manage a child's emotional health. It is being shaped as a supportive companion used with parent guidance.

Can parents edit sensitive words or conversation boundaries?

Yes, this is part of the product direction. Koa is being designed with conservative child-safety boundaries and a sensitive-topic library that parents may be able to review and edit.

The final parent-control experience, default settings, and editing scope still need to be confirmed before any pilot batch.

Will Koa include classic children's stories?

Future content plans include classic children's stories provided through licensed, public-domain, or otherwise rights-cleared sources where appropriate.

We will avoid presenting copyrighted story content unless the rights, source, and usage permissions are clear.

What does “screen-free” mean?

Screen-free means Koa is being designed to support stories, imagination, and gentle conversation without asking children to use another screen during those moments.

It is not intended to replace parents, books, outdoor play, or family routines.

What does “privacy-conscious interaction” mean?

It means Wattle & Kind is treating privacy as a core design concern from the beginning.

The final data model is still to be confirmed, but our goal is plain-language privacy, clear parent understanding, and interaction that does not feel hidden or always-on.

Will children's data stay in Australia?

We are not currently claiming that all AI processing or all conversation data stays in Australia.

Wattle & Kind is being built for Australian families, and our direction is to keep Wattle & Kind-controlled account data in Australia where practical. However, some conversation content may need to be processed by third-party AI service providers so Koa can respond.

Before any pilot batch, we intend to explain which service providers are used, what information is involved, whether any processing may occur outside Australia, and what controls parents have.

We will only make Australian data residency claims if they are approved, implemented, and verified for the final production setup.

What information should not be sent to the AI model?

Our current direction is data minimisation. We do not intend to send children's full legal names, home addresses, school names, payment information, or parent contact details to the AI model.

Where context is needed, we would prefer general labels or age bands instead of precise identity details.

How will Koa handle electronics, charging, and care?

The current product direction includes an internal voice module and a soft plush body designed for real family life.

Charging method, port placement, servicing, cleaning, final care instructions, and safety details still need to be confirmed before any pilot batch.

Is Koa a therapy, medical, or learning product?

No.

Koa is not being presented as a medical, therapy, developmental, or guaranteed learning product. It is a gentle family companion direction for stories, imagination, quiet play, and calmer routines.

What is Koa not designed to do?

Koa is not designed to replace parents, carers, books, outdoor play, professional advice, therapy, medical care, or adult supervision.

It is also not intended to be an always-listening smart speaker or an open-ended unsupervised chatbot. The product direction is a soft companion used with parent guidance and clear boundaries.

Why is Wattle & Kind building AI plush companions?

Wattle & Kind is exploring a softer kind of companion technology for family life: gentle, huggable products that support imagination and calmer routines without making everyday moments more screen-first.
